# MBH To BTU/h Calculator: Convert MBH To BTU/h (+ Chart)

There are few conversions in HVAC as simple as MBH to BTU/h. Basically, we are converting a thousands British Thermal Units per hour (MBH) to British Thermal Units per hour (BTU/h or BTU/hr). ### MBH To BTU/h Formula

MBH in HVAC stands for ‘thousand BTUs per hour’. That ‘M’ is just a Roman numeral M that means ‘thousand’ or ‘1000’. When we calculate heating or cooling capacities, we just use this conversion rule (it’s in the name):

1 MBH = 1000 BTU/h

Namely, 1 MBH is equal to 1000 BTU/h. We can write this relationship in the following equation:

BTU/h = MBH Ã— 1000

To convert MBH to BTU/h, we just need to divide MBH by a factor of 1000 to get the BTUs/h.

Quick Example: How many BTU/h is 9 MBH? Let’s insert 9 MBH in the formula above and calculate the result:

BTU/h (9 MBH) = 9 MBH Ã— 1000 = 9000 BTU/h

We see that 9 MBH is equal to 9000 BTU/h. Many portable and window air conditioners, for example, have 9 MBH or 9000 BTU/h cooling capacity.
