This review goes from “Is Hathaspace air purifier any good?” to “Seriously, it’s less than $200, where can I get one (or three)?”
In all seriousness, Hathaspace has come a long way. Here’s the before-and-after situation:
- BEFORE: Hathaspace started out selling aroma diffusers.
- AFTER (Now): Hathaspace has produced an air purifier – Smart True HEPA HSP001, to be exact – that is one of the best-selling air purifiers in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Of course, performance-wise Hathaspace cannot be compared to the best Alen BreatheSmart air purifiers; but they have ranked the #1 brand for a good reason.
Hathaspace air purifiers are rather popular. In fact, the Hathaspace Smart True HEPA air purifier has accumulated more than 5,000 reviews on Amazon (it’s not a typo) with an average star rating north of 4.5. That’s… it’s incredible.
In this review, we looked under the Hathaspace air purifier’ss hood. The thorough 5-stage filtration system and quiet motor (below 43 dB) are the key to the high rating.

You can check the Hathaspace Amazon listing here.
What makes the Hathaspace Smart True HEPA air purifier so incredibly popular?
It’s almost impossible to get 5,000+ positive reviews on pretty much any product, least of all an air purifier. Here’s an example of a Hathaspace air purifier review:
It was very easy to set up and it was a must-need purchase. Ever since I had got this purifier, I’ve noticed that my throat didn’t feel dry in the morning. It is a necessity if you live in an area with high pollution and low air-quality!
In short, people love it, and we decided to review the Hathaspace Smart True HEPA HSP001 (standard-sized air purifier) and HSP002 (the big one) to see why.
Here’s the deal:
Air purifiers such as Hathasmart can be love at first sight. Translation: People love the Hathaspace air purifier’s design.
We at LearnMetrics, however, are all about the specifications. In this thorough, in-depth Hathaspace air purifier review, we’ll look at all the primary and secondary specifications to see if its tremendously high rating is justified from an HVAC standpoint as well.
You can find a TL:DR summary of the Hathaspace air purifier at the end (skip to it here).

Hathaspace 5-in-1 Filtration System
Obviously, we should first look at Hathaspace’s filters. The filtration system is the most important part of every air purifier.
In short, the Hathaspace Smart True HEPA air purifier has one of the most extensive filtration systems of any air purifier.
Here’s how the filtration systems in the air purifier industry look like:
- Basic filtration (2-stage): Pre-filter + HEPA Filter
- Advanced filtration (3-stage): Pre-filter + Activated Carbon Filter + True HEPA Filter
- Hathaspace filtration: Pre-filter + Activated Carbon Filter + Antibacterial Filter + True HEPA Filter + Ionizer.
Hathasmart HSP001 and HSP002 have the best filtration system under their hood. Here’s how these filters look (back-to-back):

Indoor air is sucked into the Hathaspace air purifier, and it has to go through all these 5 filters. You can bet that on the other end, you will get high-quality air you can breathe.
Quick 5-Stage Filter Rundown
Indoor air can have all kinds of air pollutants you want to remove. From dust particles to mold, smoke, odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and so on.
Here’s a quick look at how each Hathaspace air filter removes these air contaminants:
- Pre-filter (Cold Catalyst): Removes larger air pollutants such as pollen, mold spores, hair, pet dander.
- Cellular-Activated Carbon filter: By process of adsorption removes gaseous pollutants. These include odors, VOCs, and smoke smell.
- Antibacterial filter: Not many air purifiers have this filter; it’s designed to target bacteria and germs.
- True HEPA filter: The essential filter; it removed the smallest particles. It’s tested to remove more than 99.97% air pollutants that are only 0.3 microns in size.
- Ionizer: Final filter clears all the remaining air contaminant from the air, based on negatively charged ion technology.
The beauty of the 5-in-1 filters Hathaspace uses is that they are:
- Very thorough at removing all kinds of air pollutants.
- Can be easily replaced all-in-one (you don’t need to replace individual filters).
Hathaspace Smart True HEPA air purifier replacement filters cost less than $40. On the whole, the Hathaspace air purifiers are quite a budget-friendly solution for increasing indoor air quality.
All in all, Hathaspace uses an upgraded filtration system. Other premium brands – such as Coway, Blueair, Alen BreatheSmart, Dyson, IQAir, and so on – also use the same basic filtration system, with specific upgrades.
Let’s look at what kind of airflow the Hathaspace 40-Watt motor can produce:
CADR Rating And Maximal Airflow
The CADR rating is a scale from 0 to 450 that tells us how well Hathaspace air purifier deals with smoke, pollen, and dust removal.
The best air purifiers have the highest CADR ratings. Here is the CADR rating of both Hathaspace air purifiers:
- CADR Rating of small Hathaspace HSP001: 160.
- CADR rating of big Hathaspace HSP002: 450.
As you can see, the smaller and more popular HSP001 model has a rather low CADR rating. Most air purifiers have a CADR rating of about 200. HSP001, in comparison, has a lower-than-average 160 CADR rating. That’s not ideal.
On the other hand, the bigger Hathaspace HSP002 has a maximum CADR rating of 450. That makes it an ideal True HEPA air purifier for smoke, dust, and pollen removal.
In fact, the Hathaspace True HEPA HSP002 air purifier ranks as the best air purifier for smoke due to a 450 smoke CADR rating.
CADR rating partly depends on maximum airflow. Unfortunately, however, Hathaspace doesn’t reveal the maximum airflow of their air purifiers.
If we apply the 2/3 AHAM rule, we can predict that HSP001 and HSP002 have 240 CFM and 675 CFM maximum airflow, respectively. 240 CFM is nothing to brag about; however, the 675 CFM the big Hathaspace air purifier is projected to produce, is exceptional.
Coverage Area And ACH
The coverage area of the Hathaspace air purifier reveals two important things:
- Small HSP001 model is appropriate for small rooms up to 350 square feet.
- Big HSP002 model is appropriate for very large rooms (even 2-3 rooms) with a total area of up to 1,500 sq ft.
The vital part here is to take into consideration air changes per hour (ACH). For example, Hathaspace HSP001 coverage area is calculated based on 2 air changes per hour (ACH = 2):

On the other hand, the HSP002 model has a coverage of 1,500 sq ft but only because that’s calculated based on 1 air change per hour (ACH=1):

If you compare coverage areas of Hathaspace HSP001 vs. HSP002, you can see that the difference between 350 sq ft and 1,500 sq ft is quite big.
However, this needs to be said:
If the big HSP002 air purifier would have ACH 2, the coverage area would be reduced to 750 sq ft.
All in all, both Hathaspace have a solid classification based on coverage area:
The smaller one is for small rooms, and the bigger one is for larger rooms.
Noise Levels (One Of The Quietest Air Purifiers)
One of the main reasons why Hathaspace air purifiers are so popular is their quiet operation.
It’s not unusual for even the premium air purifiers like Molekule to exceed 50 dB noise levels. In fact, even Alen BreatheSmart air purifiers, which are designed for improving sleeping quality, can reach 49 dB noise levels.
For comparison, here are the noise levels of Hathaspace HSP001:
- Low fan speed setting: 21 dB.
- High fan speed setting: 43 dB.
Those specs are just outstanding. The small Hathaspace True HEPA air purifier is effectively one of the quietest air purifiers in the world.
That’s, however, is not true for it’s a big and powerful brother:
The HSP002 has a noise profile starting and 30 dB and reaching 60 dB. That’s quite an average noise level for air purifiers; however, it’s important to note that the bigger Hathaspace air purifier is not as silent as the smaller unit.
Power And Extra Features
Some people are afraid that air purifiers use a lot of energy. Quite the opposite is true: Air purifiers draw very little energy.
Hathaspace HSP001 is a perfect energy-saver. It runs on 110 V AC, and its top power is only 40 W. Even if you run it 24/7, you will send less than 1 kWh per day running it at maximum speed.
To optimize energy-consumption even further, both Hathaspace air purifiers come with a useful extra feature.
It’s called Auto Mode. This feature uses a sensor to detect the indoor air quality and changes the fan speed according to the quality. If you have low air quality, the Hathaspace air purifier will run at full speed. When you reach good air quality levels, it will reduce the fan speed to maintain the high air quality:
Auto Mode also makes manual handling of air purifier minimal. It’s an automatic air purifier that changes fan speeds better and thereby optimizes energy-consumption even further.
Price, Warranty, And Certificates
Pretty much the best thing about the Hathaspace air purifiers is the price.
The smaller HSP001 costs less than $200, while the bigger HSP002 costs about $400 (because of its tremendous coverage area and high CADR rating).
If you buy directly from Hathaspace, you also get multiyear long warranties:
- 2-year warranty for HSP001.
- 5-year warranty for HSF002.
Those are quite standard warranties for air purifiers.
What’s above the standard is the various certifications Hathaspace air purifiers have picked up. Here is a list of certificates for both units:
- HSP001 has CE, CB, and RoHS certifications.
- HSP002 has ETL, CARB, and Energy Star certifications.
Most people know the Energy Star certificate for energy-effectiveness (one of the best HVAC certificates you can have). Other certificates like CE, ETL, and CARB are air purifier specific certifications. In short, Hathaspace made sure to have a bulletproof device and was confident enough to get several certificates for each air purifier.
Final Hathaspace Assessment
All in all, Hathaspace’s praise and high reviews are well-deserved. The 5-in-1 filtration system, coupled with a silent operation, is exactly what is needed to significantly increase the indoor air quality. The affordable price is also a major plus:
If you have experience with Hathaspace air purifiers, or with any others, and have something to add, you can do so in the comments below. For reference, you can check other high efficient and aesthetic air purifiers here.
I wear hearing aids. Would the noise affect my ability to hear. Our adult daughter is highly allergic to cats and wants to visit us. We have two inside cats.
Hello Sara, the noise of air purifiers is about the same noise as the noise coming from an air conditioner. If you feel like AC noise doesn’t affect your heating, the air purifier most probably won’t.
It appears they have removed the ionizer from the units.
Yes, that’s quite a good choice. Ozone generators are not the most effective or harmless ways to remove bacteria. A good resource for that is an article ‘Truth about ozone generators’.
