5 Medify Air Purifier Reviewed: MA-40 vs MA-25 vs MA-18 vs MA-15 vs MA-14

H13 HEPA filters. That’s what makes Medify air purifiers so thorough.

When comparing different air purifiers, the Modify air purifiers are considered one of the best brands. The reason for that is very apparent:

Medify produces H13 HEPA air purifiers (also known as medical-grade HEPA). Not the same as standard HEPA air purifiers.

Standard HEPA filters are categorized as either H10, H11, or H12 filters. They are, by the Department of Energy’s definition, capable of removing more than 99.97% of air pollutants that are down to 0.3 microns in size. In short, they capture dust, pollen, mold, smoke, dust mites, and even certain bacteria, thereby improving your indoor air quality.

Medify air purifiers are designed to go beyond the standard True HEPA filters. Here’s why:

There’s a whole lot of air pollutants smaller than 0.3 microns. Standard HEPA filters do nothing to remove them, and they stay airborne and free to enter your lungs through your mouth or nose.

To get rid of them, all Medify units use H13 HEPA filters. These medical-grade H13 HEPA filters are the very thing that Medify air purifiers are so well-known for.

Example: Medify MA-40the best Medify air purifier – comes with a high-grade H13 HEPA B07MTQFFNT filter.

It’s only the H13 HEPA filters that remove more than 99.9% of particles that are as small as 0.01 microns. Here’s how this difference looks in terms of which air pollutants can be captured:

medify air filters are h13 hepa filters are reduce more than 99.9% of 0.1 micron particles

In short, Medify air purifiers are held in such high regard because they are way more thorough than most other air purifiers.

The Medify MA-40 is the most widely-known H13 HEPA filter air purifier; it’s most appropriate for large rooms. To get a better grip on Medify air purifiers, we’ll look at their 5 best models.

Medify Surprisingly Simple 3-Stage Filtration System

All Medify air purifiers have a 3-stage filtration system. The 3-stage filtration system is the industry standard. It includes 3 filters: pre-filter, HEPA filter, and carbon filters.

All brands – including Coway, Levoit, Okaysou, Winix, Hathaspace, Honeywell, Blueair, even Alen, to name just a few – use it to improve indoor air quality.

The how-it-works is simple: pre-filter captures large particles like pet dander, True HEPA filter captures small particles down to 0.3 microns, and carbon filter removes the gaseous odor.

The one between Medify air purifiers and other purifiers is that Medify uses H13 HEPA (captures down to 0.01-micron particles) instead of 0.3 micron True HEPA.

H13 HEPA Filter: Purification Capability And Lifespan

Compared to True HEPA filters, Medify’s H13 HEPA filters can capture particles that are 3 times smaller. Medify is one of the very few companies that invest in medical-grade H13 HEPA filters.

This is partly due to Medify being a hospital and dental air purifier supplier. On the other hand, ordinary customers also love the medical-grade air quality in their homes.

Example: People who have switched from HEPA air purifier to Medify MA-40 with medical-grade H13 HEPA filter have reported a significant increase in indoor air quality.

If H13 HEPA filters are so great, why doesn’t every air purifier use them?

First of all, you need specific know-how to create medical-grade HEPA filters. Medify has it, not many other air purifier producers go into producing their own HEPA filters.

Secondly, H13 filters have very small holes which can:

  • Cause a pressure drop.
  • Get saturated quickly.

That’s why Medify units like MA-40 and MA-25 use a higher airflow to mediate the pressure drop. Medify’s H13 HEPA filters are also more expensive and can only be used for certain amount of air purification hours.

The lifespan of the best Medify’s H13 HEPA air purifiers is 2500 hours, as is the case with B07MTQFFNT and B084Q965BF replacement filters for MA-40 and MA-25, respectively.

The smaller desktop Medify MA-14 air purifier, on the other hand, has 1500 hours H13 HEPA filter lifespan.

Medify replacement filters cost anywhere from $40 to $70, depending on the model.

Here’s the bottom line:

H13 HEPA filters might cause engineers problems and do have a premium cost, but they can remove air pollutants down to 0.1-micron. That also takes care of asbestos, carbon dust, certain virus carriers, insecticides, and even anthrax.

Room Size And CADR Rating

The CADR rating is always the most important metrics when it comes to any air purifiers. It stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate; it measures the efficiency of air purifiers to remove small particles such as dust, pollen, and smoke.

Medify air purifiers have above-average CADR ratings. Based on these CADR ratings, we can calculate the recommended coverage area of Medify air purifiers. Medify uses 4 air changes per hour, or 4 ACH, to calculate the recommended room sizes.

Based on the CADR rating, we have 3 sizes of Medify air purifiers:

  1. Large room air purifiers. Example: Medify MA-40 with 330 CADR rating and 420 sq ft recommended coverage area.
  2. Mid-sized air purifiers. Example: Medify MA-25 (250 sq ft) and Medify MA-18 (200 sq ft).
  3. Small room air purifiers. Example: Medify MA-15 (165 sq ft) and Medify MA-14 (117 sq ft).

All in all, Medify air purifiers are designed to increase indoor air quality significantly more than common air purifiers.

Let’s have a look at the 5 top Medify air purifiers. Of course, it’s not at all surprising that the best one is the all-popular MA-40:

1. Medify MA-40 Review (Best Medify Air Purifier, By Far)

Best Medify Air Purifier, By Far

Medify Air MA-40 is the quintessential H13 HEPA air purifier. If you have heard of any Medify air purifier, it was most probably the MA-40. This is the best and the best-selling Medify air purifiers.

It has outstanding specs for an H13 HEPA air purifier. It’s the only Medify model with a 300+ CADR rating. In fact, it has a total of 330 CADR rating. That means the Medify Air MA-40 can very effectively capture and remove dust, pollen, and smoke particles even in large rooms.

It’s recommended coverage area is 420 sq ft. It’s calculated that in such a room – be it a bedroom, living room, or even kitchen – the MA-40 will change all the air in 15 minutes.

Characteristic for Medify, the MA-40 comes with a 3-stage filtration system, including the medical-grade H13 HEPA filter. The filter has the longest lifespan; it needs to be replaced after 2500 running hours.

If you run MA-40 8 hours per day, you will need to replace the B07MTQFFNT once a year. If you run it 24/7, you will have to replace it every 3-4 months.

All in all, specs-wise it’s not hard to see why Medify MA-40 is the most popular and best Medify air purifier. It’s an H13 HEPA large room air purifier with 330 CADR ratings available for about $300.

Pros
  • Higher CADR rating for a Medify air purifier (330 CADR) with 420 sq ft recommended coverage area
  • Most popular and best-selling Medify unit with exceptional reviews
  • Has the best 2500-hour H13 HEPA filters
  • Affordable price for a large room air purifier (around $300)
Cons
  • In areas with exceptional high 0.1-0.3 micron particle concentration, H13 HEPA filter last less than 2500 hours

2. Medify Air MA-25 Review (Most Thorough Mid-Size Medify Air Purifier)

Most Thorough Mid-Size Medify Air Purifier
Coverage Area: 250 sq ft (4 ACH)
CADR Rating: 250
Filters: High-Grade H13 HEPA
Replacement Filter: B084Q965BF (2500 hours)
Dimensions: 8 x 8 x 13.5 inches
Weight: 7.3 lbs
Price: $$$$
Rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars

Medify Air MA-25 is a mid-sized air purifier. Medify has, due to the use of H13 HEPA filters, a reputation of creating very thorough air purifiers; the ones which capture the maximum number of particles. Medify Air MA-25 is the most thorough model because:

  1. MA-25 has a CADR rating of 250.
  2. MA-25 has a recommended coverage area of 250 sq ft.

That’s a 1:1 ratio of CADR rating to square footage. That means that the highly-capable Medify MA-25 is operating in medium-sized rooms. The sheer impact of such purification power, coupled with the use of H13 HEPA filters, ensures truly a thorough air pollutant removal.

Of all the air purifiers, there is only a handful that has a 1:1 CADR to square footage ratio. That, along with an affordable price of below $200, makes the Medify MA-25 one of the best medium-size room air purifiers.

Medify MA-25

Pros
  • 250 CADR rating with 250 sq ft recommended coverage area (1:1 ratio)
  • One of the best mid-sized air purifiers
  • Has the H13 HEPA filter that lasts for 2500 hours
  • Price-wise is more affordable than the MA-40 (you can buy 2 of them for the price of 1 MA-40)
Cons
  • Can’t handle 500+ sq ft area, and is overkill for areas below 200 sq ft
  • H13 HEPA filters are exceptional but replacement filters do cost almost $70

3. Medify MA-18 Review (Small Yet Powerful Compact Medify Air Purifier)

Small Yet Powerful Medify Air Purifier
Coverage Area: 200 sq ft (4 ACH)
CADR Rating: 150
Filters: High-Grade H13 HEPA
Replacement Filter: B07W943P67 (2000 hours)
Dimensions: 8.4 x 8.4 x 11.2 inches
Weight: 4.4 lbs
Price: $$$$
Rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars

Medify air purifiers can be quite large due to the inclusion of the H13 HEPA filtration system. With Medify MA-18, Medify Air created a lean and compact air purifiers that still has an H13 HEPA filter and can be moved around with ease.

On top of that, the Medify MA-18 has quite solid specifications. It has a 150 CADR rating and is recommended to be used in 200 sq ft rooms (4 ACH). Of course, you can use it in 400 sq ft (2 ACH) or even 800 sq ft (1 ACH) rooms but it would have an exponentially less significant positive impact on the air quality.

It has a high-grade H13 HEPA filter that lasts for 2000 hours. Comparing Medify MA-18 to MA-40 and MA-25 filter, you can see that the bigger two units have H13 filters that last 500 more.

What is more, Medify MA-18 is also less than 12-inch tall. If you read LM’s article on how purifiers work, you see that the engineering challenge of creating a strong airflow and fitting all the 3-stage filtration is quite tremendous.

Nonetheless, it’s that much more impressive that Medify was capable of creating the compact MA-18 and that they can offer it for a price of less than $100.

Medify MA-18

Pros
  • Most compact Medify air purifier that can still cover 200 sq ft area
  • H13 HEPA filter is cased inside a less than a 12-inch tall unit
  • Crazy low price tag: A Medify air purifier for less than $100
Cons
  • Is not fit to remove air pollutants effectively in 400+ sq ft rooms
  • H13 HEPA filter lifespan is 2000 hours (best ones are 2500 hours)

4. Medify MA-15 Review (Best Small Room Medify Air Purifier)

Best Small Room Medify Air Purifier
Coverage Area: 165 sq ft (4 ACH)
CADR Rating: 150
Filters: High-Grade H13 HEPA
Replacement Filter: B089CNPW7D (2500 hours)
Dimensions: 9.7 x 9.7 x 15.5 inches
Weight: 6.6 lbs
Price: $$$$
Rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars

Medify Air MA-15 is the new 2020 model. It’s a small room air purifier that can fit in any room. The idea is to use several Medify MA-15 air purifiers per room or for several rooms. Here’s why:

It has a solid 150 CADR rating and it will change all the air in a 165 sq ft room every 15 minutes. We come very close to 1:1 CADR vs square footage ratio (only MA-25 achieves it fully).

With such a CADR rating, the MA-15 can drastically increase indoor air quality by quickly removing air pollutants. It’s not limited by True HEPA down-to-0.3 micron size air pollutants. As all Medify air purifiers, the MA-15 too can capture those potentially allergenic smallest 0.1 micron-in-size particles.

On top of that, it has the best H13 HEPA filters in terms of lifespan. We have seen that MA-18 has the same 150 CADR rating but a 2000-hours H13 lifespan. In contrast to MA-18, MA-15 has a 2500-hour H3 HEPA air filter.

There is a price for this advantage; quite literally. MA-15 has a bit higher price tag than MA-18 due to longer filter lifespan.

Medify MA-15

Pros
  • New 2020 Medify air purifier; several of them can be used in several small rooms
  • Almost 1:1 CADR rating vs square footage ratio
  • Best H13 Medify HEPA filters with 2500 hour lifespan
Cons
  • A bit higher price tag than comparable H-18 due to better filters
  • It’s a new 2020 Medify model without a meaningful track-record or customer feedback yet

5. Medify MA-14 Review (Best Desktop Medify Air Purifier)

Best Desktop Medify Air Purifier
Coverage Area: 117 sq ft (4 ACH)
CADR Rating: 120
Filters: High-Grade H13 HEPA
Replacement Filter: B07VF25QJ6 (1500 hours)
Dimensions: 8 x 8 x 12 inches
Weight: 4.4 lbs
Price: $$$$
Rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars

Medify MA-14 is the smallest Medify air purifier for desktops. If you’ve read the article about where to place an air purifier, you know that putting it on a desk near you maximizes its positive effect on indoor air quality.

That being said, the Medify MA-14 has a 120 CADR rating which is an incredibly capable rating for a desktop unit. For comparison, some desktop air purifier has a CADR rating of 50.

With such a rating, Medify MA-14 is capable of effectively capturing and removing more than 99.9% of the smallest 0.1 microns in size particles in very small rooms. It’s recommended coverage area is 117 sq ft, based on 4 air changes per hour.

The weakest part is the longevity of the H13 HEPA filter. It lasts for 1500 hours. If you run the Medify MA-14 8 hours per day, the filter has to be replaced every 6 months or so.

And that’s exactly the point: Medify MA-14 is an office air purifier. You are supposed to be in the office for 8 hours per day with the MA-14 keeping you company and purifying the air that you breathe. Despite being so small, it has quite a hefty price tag because it’s just so convenient to be used in offices.

Medify MA-14

Pros
  • Perfect H13 HEPA air purifier for offices
  • Weighs less than 5 lbs, you can easily carry it anywhere you go
  • High 120 CADR rating for a desktop air purifier
Cons
  • Filter has only 1500 hour lifespan
  • Because it’s so convenient – office, desktop – it has a higher price tag

Comparison Of Medify Air Purifiers VS Other Air Purifier Brands

Medify is one of the few brands that does invest in the H13 HEPA filters. It’s interesting to see how the capability of Medify air purifiers compares to other brands with standard True HEPA filters. Let’s see a few brand-by-brand comparisons:

Medify VS Levoit

Levoit is actually the closest air purifier brand to Medify in terms of the model range, CADR ratings, 3-stage filtration system, and even prices.

Example: Levoit LV-H135 vs Medify MA-40. Both have a 300+ CADR rating, cost about $300, and have a 400-500 sq ft recommended coverage area. Even the filter lifespans are similar.

There is one big difference between Levoit vs Medify, of course:

Levoit uses HEPA filters, while Medify uses H13 HEPA filters.

That means that Levoit still leaves out those smallest below 0.3-micron air pollutants in the air. Those are the ones Medify filters out of indoor air.

Essentially, for people with allergies, it makes sense to filter out as many air pollutants as possible. Medify’s H13 HEPA filters certainly do a better job than Levoit HEPA filters.

Molekule VS Medify

It’s interesting to compare Molekule vs Medify air purifiers. Molekule’s new-age PECO filters are primarily designed to destroy (literally fry) bacteria and certain viruses.

Of course, all HEPA-based air purifiers try to do that as well but many bacteria and viruses are smaller than 0.3 microns (the lower size range of HEPA filters). Medify’s H13 HEPA filters, however, have a 0.1 micron lower size range.

Within 0.1 and 0.3 microns, there are a number of bacteria and viruses Medify air purifiers do capture.

However, capture is not the same as destroy. In the battle between Molekule Air and Medify MA-40, for example, Molekule Air will always wina because it destroys bacteria, not merely captures them.

Medify VS Okaysou

Okaysou is a lesser-known air purifier brand. They offer 3 air purifiers that are in the same league as Medify units, regarding CADR rating, room sizes, and, most importantly, H13 HEPA filters.

Both Medify, as well as Okaysou, offer H13 HEPA filters. In fact, Okaysou has 4 specific H13 medical-grade HEPA filters you can choose for the removal of specific air pollutants.

Even the most powerful AirMax10L Pro Smart Okaysour air purifier can’t reach the 350 CADR rated MA-40. However, if you base Okaysou vs Medify comparison on price-performance, the Okaysou air purifiers are better.

  1. I am trying to find a good air purifier for our home office, which is 104 square feet. Primary concern is heavy cigarette smoke. We also are trying to avoid models with super expensive filter replacements. I have been looking at Medify, Hathaspace and Blue Air. Could you steer us in the right direction? There is so much conflicting information online and reviews that it is daunting to sort through.

    • Hi Sara, I understand your pain, it’s quite frustrating to find the actual specs that help with smoke vs pure marketing. As far as smoke is concerned, the AHAM (Association of Home Appliances Manufacturers) actually measured a specification called ‘CADR smoke rating’; you can read more about CADR here. Basically, this rating measures how well does an air purifier remove smoke air particles that are between 0.9 and 1.0 μm in diameter.

With heavy smoking, you will have smoke particles + smoke odor. For smoke particles, you just need to look for an air purifier with a high enough CADR rating. For smoke odor, you need an air purifier with a good carbon filter (absorbs the smell of cigarettes). CADR-wise, here are some stats for these 3 air purifier brands that would be suitable for a 104 sq ft office:
      – Medify MA-25 has smoke CADR rating of 250 CFM.
      – Hathaspace HSP001 has an overall 160 CFM CADR rating (no smoke CADR available).
      – Blueair Blue Pure 411 has an overall 105 CFM CADR rating (no smoke CADR available).

Specs-wise, the Medify unit is the best for smoke. It also has a good carbon filter for cigarette odor. However, the H14 HEPA filters are a bit more expensive; that’s why it’s so good. The best-but-not-expensive idea here would be to get Medify MA-25 with H13 filters. There are less expensive to replace, and you still get a 200+ CFM CADR rating. The 2nd choice would be Hathaspace, and Blueair 411 in the 3rd place.

Hope this helps to look at these smoke air purifiers clearly.
