PSI is a much bigger unit of pressure than Pascal. In many cases, we will have to convert PSI to Pa. To help everybody out, we have designed a very simple-to-use PSI to Pa calculator (insert PSI, get PA) and included a conversion chart with as little as 0.0001 PSI to 1000000 PSI converted to Pa.
Let’s first look at what these units of pressure are and how we can convert PSI to Pa:
- PSI or Pound per Square Inch is a unit of pressure used predominantly in the US. 1 PSI is the pressure of 1 pound-force pressing on 1 square inch of surface (1 PSI = 1 lbn/in2). Because a square inch is quite a small surface area, the PSI unit is much bigger than Pa.
- Pa or Pascal is an SI unit of pressure used in the metric system. 1 Pa is the pressure of 1 Newton (kg×m/s2) pressing on 1 square meter of surface (1 Pa = 1 N/m2). Compared to PSI, Pascal is a much smaller unit for expressing the amount of pressure.
How to convert PSI to Pa?
To convert pounds per square inch to Pascals, you really only need to know 1 conversion rule:
1 PSI = 6894.7573 Pa
Basically, 1 PSI is equal to 6895 Pa. If you round it up like this, you are making less than 0.004% conversion error. Converting PSI to Pa just means you have to multiply PSI by 6894.7573 to get Pascals.
Example: How many Pa is 150 PSI? Here is how you can calculate that:
150 PSI × 6894.7573 = 1034213.595 Pa = 1.034 MPa
150 PSI is equal to more than a million Pa (1034213.595 Pa, to be exact). We can denote that in MPa (megapascals); 150 PSI is equal to about 1.034 MPa.
As you can see, you would have to type quite a lot of numbers after the decimal point on your pocket calculator for this conversion. To make everything much simpler, you can use this neat PSI to Pa calculator and consult the conversion chart below the calculator:
PSI To Pascal Calculator
As you can see, using this conversion calculator is dead simple. Let’s say you want to convert 68.4 PSI to Pa. You just insert ‘68.4’ and get the result: 68.4 PSI is equal to 471601.40 Pa. That’s 471.6 kPa or about a half of MPa.
Here is the PSI to Pa conversion chart that you can use as well:
