Air purifiers are engineered to remove dust. Every air purifier is capable of capturing dust particulates. Obviously, there are air purifiers that are good at collecting dust and ones that are not as good. We are going to check are the very best air purifiers for dust removal.
Here’s why these air purifiers for dust are so incredibly popular:
If you are wondering why your house is always dusty, a good air purifier for dust removal is the best way how to keep your house dust-free. You can’t just open windows or gather dust in any other way that would make a meaningful difference and increase the quality of the air you breathe.
Here’s how you can easily tell which purifiers are good at removing dust from indoor air:
Check the dust CADR specification (Clean Air Delivery Rate). Every AHAM-approved air purifier has to pass three air particulate removal tests for dust, pollen, and smoke. Dust CADR is a measurement of how well does an air purifier remove dust particles with sizes between 0.5 microns and 3 microns.
You know how real estate agents emphasize ‘location, location, location’? In the case of the best air purifiers for dust removal, we have to emphasize ‘HEPA filters, HEPA filters, HEPA filters’ in much the same way as we will explain further on (differences between H12, H13, H14 HEPA filters). Dust CADR rating primarily depends on:
- Quality of HEPA filters. H13 and H14 HEPA filters are the best air filters for dust removal. Most standard air purifiers, however, use H10-H12 HEPA filters.
- Airflow. Higher airflow + adequate HEPA filters = Higher dust CADR rating.

The best dust air purifiers are simply those that have the highest dust CADR rating? That is mostly true; but we also have to consider if an air purifier is a good unit in general by checking several other specs like particle CADR rating, dust filters (choice of HEPA filter), dust removal metrics, coverage, airflow, energy consumption, price, and overall air purifier brand reputation.
On top of that, we also have to consider how well air purifiers can remove specific dust particles. Here are just a few examples of what dust particles we have at our home and their respective sizes:
- Titanium oxide dust particles are about 0.01 micron in size.
- Zinc monoglycerole dust particles are about 1.3 microns in size.
- Nickel dust particles are about 2.5 microns in size.
- Phosphate sodium salt dust particles are about 4 microns in size.
- Nano calcium carbonate dust particles have sizes between 0.05 and 0.1 microns.
- Graphite dust particles are sized between 0.2 and 20 microns.
LearnMetrics has gathered all of these specs, with consideration to specific dust particles in indoor air, to come up with the 9 absolute best air purifiers for dust removal. Below, you will find a complete spec-by-spec comparison of the highest-rated air purifiers for dust, followed by reviews of individual dust air purifiers. You can skip to the whole list here (it’s recommended to follow our guide below on what these specs all mean):
Skip To 9 Best Air Purifiers For Dust Removal
In the table, you will find 10 specifications that tell us how good an air purifier is at removing dust (directly or indirectly). We will start by explaining what are the most important specifications you want to see in your dust air purifier (to truly remove dust and increase indoor air quality).
First of all, let’s explain a bit why just listing air purifiers from the highest dust CADR rating to the lowest is not exactly the right way of choosing the best air purifiers for dust for your specific situation:
What Else Do Air Purifiers For Dust Offer
Generally, all air purifiers are used to increase indoor air quality. That means they trap big and small air particulates like dust, pollen, smoke, odors, VOCs (volatile organic compounds), pet hair, and so on.
All the best air purifiers for dust are, obviously, incredibly good at removing dust. However, most of them have something else to offer. Obviously, the overall best dust air purifier – #1 Medify MA-112 – is outstanding in almost every way with the best filtration system. Here are examples of what some other great air purifiers for dust removal can offer:
- #5 Coway Airmega 400 is exceptionally good at removing dust and pet hair. That’s because it has the best pre-filter that collects pet hair and protects the precious H13 HEPA filter.
- #8 RabbitAir MinusA2 SPA-780A is the quietest air purifier for dust. All H13, H14 air filters are very fine and need a lot of air pressure for the air to pass through them and be cleansed. Producing that air pressure can be loud. RabbitAir uses less airflow (CFMs) and therefore produces the least amount of noise while still keeping dust CADR rating at almost 200 CFM.
- #2 IQAir HealthPro Plus is a Swiss-made medical-grade air purifier with HyperHEPA filters. As such it is the best fit for very fine dust removal (removes down to 0.003-micron particles). In most cases that is a bit excessive, but if you have allergies, that fine HEPA filter can be a life-changer.
- #7 BlueAir DustMagnet 5440i is the most useful air purifier for dust because it is basically a table. You can put books on it.
- #3 CleanForce CP-MEGA 1000 is the highest dust CADR air purifier (reaching an incredible 600 CFM). It can even be used to capture dust particles on construction sites like an air scrubber.
- #6 Coway Airmega AP-1512HH is the cheapest small air purifier for dust that is still good. While best air purifiers for dust removal cost more than $500, this small unit costs less than $200. It has a 144 sq coverage at 5 ACH, however, so you might need several of them.
- #4 Alen Breathe Smart 75i is the most energy-efficient air purifier for dust. It can generate up to 350 CFM airflow (with a 347 CFM dust CADR rating) with as little as 45 watts max. electric input. That means that even if you run it at 100% output for 24 hours per day, it will use only 1.08 kWh of power (that’s about $0.15/day running cost, depending on the electricity cost in your area).
As you can see, it’s not all that easy to choose the best air purifier for dust, and we haven’t even started with #1 Medify MA-112’s H14 HEPA filters, and its enormous 563 dust CADR rating.
In order to adequately understand and compare these high-rated air purifiers for dust, let’s look at the most important specs we have to check when buying a dust air purifier for our home. Obviously, we have to start with dust CADR rating:
Dust CADR Rating And Particle CADR Rating (#1 Spec To Check)
You don’t have to wonder if air purifiers are good at removing dust. AHAM – Association of Home Appliances Manufacturers – makes certifiable measurements of how well air purifiers remove dust for you. Namely, they measure overall particle CADR rating (dust, pollen, smoke) and dust CADR rating.
Here is how dust CADR is defined according to the ANSI/AHAM AC-1-2006 directive: “(dust CADR is) the rate of dust particles reduction in the test chamber when the unit is turned on, minus the rate of natural decay when the unit is not running, multiplied by the volume of the test chamber as measured in cubic feet.”

An air purifier will be put into this test chamber, turned on, and AHAM will measure how well it removes dust particles, sized between 0.5 and 3 microns. That’s how we get air purifiers with dust CADR ratings of 50 CFM, 100 CFM, 200 CFM, 300 CFM, and so on.
The higher the dust CADR rating, the more thoroughly an air purifier can remove dust particulates. Higher CADR-rated air purifiers remove dust (even in larger rooms) fast.
As you will see in the list below, the best air purifiers for dust can even have a dust CADR rating above 500 CFM.
It is also important to note that not all dust particles are between 0.5 and 3 microns in size. According to the classification of dust particles in this ScienceDirect article, we have:
- Bigger dust particles with sizes 20 microns and above.
- Standard dust particles with sizes between 1 and 20 microns.
- Smaller dust particles with sizes below 1 micron.
A large part of the particles is smaller than 0.5 microns (H13 and H14 HEPA filters take care of those) and some particles are bigger than 3 microns. In general, HEPA filters can take care of all the bigger and standard-sized dust particles. The most problematic particles – the smaller dust particles – is where good H13 and H14 HEPA filters have a big advantage over standard H10, H11, and H12 HEPA filters, as we will see further on.
Note: Particle CADR rating is the average dust CADR rating, smoke CADR rating, and pollen CADR rating. In general, it is in line with the dust CADR rating with up to 15% deviations. Example: If particle CADR rating is 300 CFM, dust CADR rating is, in general, between 255 CFM and 345 CFM.
The two main things that influence how high dust CADR rating an air purifier has are filters and airflow. Let’s check them out as well:
HEPA Filters And Dust Removal (#2 Spec)
The key thing that makes a difference between the best air purifiers for dust removal and standard ones are HEPA filters. We talk about H10-12 filters for standard units are H13-14 filters for the best dust unit.
HEPA or High-Efficiency Particle Air filters are fine filters made out of a mat of randomly arranged fibers. Dust particles are caught by these fine fibers. According to the US DOE definition (listed in ‘DOE-STD-3025-2007, Quality Assurance Inspection and Testing of HEPA Filters‘), every air filter that can capture more than 99.97% of particles with a 0.3-micron diameter is considered a HEPA filter.

Most air purifiers use filters that satisfy this basic US DOE criteria; these are H10, H11, and H12 HEPA filters. They are cheaper and adequate to remove dust particulates and reduce air pollution.
The best air purifiers for dust, however, go beyond these basic filtration criteria. They use advanced H13 (usually called True HEPA) filters with the capability to capture more than 99.9% of very small 0.1 microns in diameter dust particles.
The absolute best filters for dust removal are the H14 HEPA filters. Air purifiers with H14 HEPA filters like #1 Medify MA-112 and #2 IQAir HealthPro Plus were introduced in the last 5 years. A filter like MA-1000 H14 HEPA can remove 99.99% of particles that are down to 0.1 microns small. In simplified terms, they remove all the available dust in the air.
Note: Allergens that cause asthma, for example, can be as little as 0.1 microns in size (or even smaller). That’s why it makes sense to invest in better filters if you are prone to allergies.
The standard filter arrangement in air purifiers also includes:
- A pre-filter. This is a rougher first filter that captures bigger particulates like pet hair, human hair, dandruff, and so on. If you have pets like dogs and cats, having a high-quality pre-filter like in #4 Alen Breathe Smart 75i makes sense. It is incredibly important to have a pre-filter; it serves as a shield for the HEPA filters. Without the pre-filter, the dust-removing HEPA filter would quickly be saturated with dog hair, for example.
- A carbon filter. This filter doesn’t capture dust; it adsorbs gaseous substances. That means it reduces smells; unwanted odors from the kitchen, cat pee, and cleaning chemicals are removed by a carbon filter. In addition to the best H14 HEPA filter, #1 Medify MA-112 includes a substantial and very good activated carbon filter.
In short, you can’t get very fine dust removal without at least H12 HEPA filters. H13 are very good and H14 are the best for very fine dust removal.
Obviously, air purifiers have to generate airflow through these filters. Let’s check these airflows and associated coverage areas of dust air purifiers:
Airflow And Coverage Area (#3 Spec)
Here is why airflow matters in air purifiers for dust:
- You have indoor air containing dust.
- Fan inside the air purifier sucks the dust-containing air inside the unit and through the filters, creating airflow.
- Fan also expells dust-free air back into your home.
If the HEPA filters can handle it, more airflow equals more dust removal. Based on how much air can be delivered into the air purifier and how well the HEPA filters do their job, we can measure the dust CADR rating.
Here is how you usually see these airflow specs:
A standard air conditioner will generate 300 CFM airflow and have a dust CADR rating of 200 CFM. This is known as AHAM’s 2/3 rule of thumb; basically, CADR rating is about 2/3 of maximum airflow.
What we see in air purifiers with the best dust filters, however, is that a 300 CFM airflow will produce close to a 300 CFM CADR rating. That means that the HEPA filter is efficient enough to remove dust from all the airflow that the air purifier fan will produce.
Based on this airflow (and partly on CADR rating), manufacturers calculate the coverage area of air purifiers. What is key to understand here is that most coverage areas you see in marketing materials are calculated for 2 ACH or 2 Air Changes per Hour.
Example: “Our air purifier has up to 1,300 sq ft coverage”. That means that such an air purifier can change the air in a 1,300 sq ft room with an 8 ft ceiling height 2 times per hour (that’s every 30 minutes).

Air purifier manufacturers like to through that big coverage numbers. However, if you want to remove all of the dust or if you are an allergy-prone person, it is recommended for the air purifier to change all the air in the room 5 times per hour (that’s every 12 minutes).
As you might imagine, when you remove dust from air, some dust will lift into the air from the floor, carpets, and so on. That’s why it makes sense to calculate the coverage area not on 2 ACH but on 5 ACH.
The same 1,300 sq ft air purifier (at 2 ACH) will have an effective coverage of 520 sq ft (at 5 ACH). In order to ensure you are continuously breathing dust-free air, we have calculated effective air purifier coverage rates at 5 ACH and summarized them in the spec-by-spec comparison table below.
With air purifiers for dust, we only need to touch one more spec that’s important in this case:
Energy Efficiency Of Dust Air Purifiers (#4 Spec)
Now, standard air purifiers don’t use much electricity. Most of them will run at below 100W even at the highest CFMs.
With the best air purifiers for dust, you have to be a bit careful, however. That’s because they use incredibly fine H13 and H14 HEPA filters. As you might imagine, generating an airflow over these incredibly fine filters requires the fan to work extra hard (there is also a big pressure drop here; the difference between PSI before the filter and PSI after the filter).
That’s why some very good H13 air purifiers for dust removal can have a maximum wattage of up to 300W. 300W is very power-hungry; running such a unit for 24 hours will consume 7.2 kWh of electricity (that can cost quite a lot more than $10 per day). In our selection below, we have eliminated all these unnecessarily power-hungry dust air purifiers.
You will see that most air purifiers for dust in the list below have below 100W maximum wattage. The exception is the #2 IQAir HealthPro Plus with 215W due to the exceptionally fine H14+ HyperHEPA filters. The most energy-efficient air purifier for dust is #4 Alen Breathe Smart 75i with top wattage of only 45W. Even when operating at 100% output, it costs less than 1 cent to run.
With all these specs considered, let’s have a look at a list of the best air purifier for dust removal currently on the market:

If you want to create a completely dust-free home, the Medify MA-112 is your go-to choice. We will look at the dust CADR rating, airflow, and selection of H13 and H14 filters. Considering all these specs as well as reading the customer reviews, the Medify MA-112 is the absolute best air purifier for dust.
First of all, MA-112 has a 563 CFM dust CADR rating. That is way above the average of about 180 CFM most standard units have. In fact, the Medify MA-112 has an overall particle CADR rating of 559 CFM. That means that the dust CADR rating is above the overall particle CADR rating which tells you one thing: This unit is specifically designed to remove dust. Here are all 3 particle ratings:
- Smoke CADR: 546 CFM.
- Pollen CADR: 450 CFM.
- Dust CADR: 559 CFM.
If you have read the section where we discussed the specs, you know exactly why Medify MA-112 is so good at capturing dust particulates:
It’s the H14 HEPA filter. In fact, you can choose H13 or H14 HEPA filters, but we all know that H14 HEPA filters are the best dust filters. They can capture all the bigger dust particles, standard dust particles, and up to 99.99% of the smallest 0.1-micron in diameter particles. This is an unparallel level of small dust particle removal.
On top of that, these H14 filters can last for 3,000 running hours. That means you can use it non-stop 24/7 for more than 4 months. If you use the air purifier for 8 hours per day, the HEPA H14 filter will last for more than 1 year.
The Medify MA-112 fan can generate the maximum airflow of 563 CFM (Speed 4), running at 95W max. wattage. There is no other H14 HEPA filter that could operate 100% output, producing 500+ CFM airflow, and consume less than 0.1 kWh of electricity per hour. With such airflow, it has a coverage area at 5 ACH (changes air in the room every 12 minutes) of 838 sq ft.
Even Medify MA-112 has a few backdraws. It has 4 fan speed settings (Speed 1 producing 212 CFM CADR, Speed 2 producing 281 CFM CADR, Speed 3 producing 391 CFM CADR, and Speed 4 producing 559 CFM CADR). Many other good air purifiers for dust have 5 or 6 fan speed settings; it’s not all that important but it is noteworthy. Pollen CADR rating is very high as well (459 CFM) but not as high as dust CADR rating (563 CFM).
All in all, Medify MA-112 is the perfect air purifier for dust. It has the new-age ultra-fine H14 HEPA filters, absurdly high 563 dust CADR rating, long-lasting filters, it’s energy-efficient and is specifically designed to remove dust particulates in your are extra fast:
2. Most Thorough Air Purifier For Dust (Medical Grade): IQAir HealthPro Plus

Dust CADR Rating: | 300 CFM |
Particle CADR: | 300 CFM |
Dust Filters: | H14 HEPA (HyperHEPA) |
Dust Removal: | 99.5% Particles Down To 0.003 Microns |
Coverage Area At 5 ACH: | 450 Sq Ft |
Max. Airflow: | 300 CFM |
Fan Speeds: | 6 Speeds |
Max. Wattage: | 215 Watts |
Price: | $$$$ |
Rating: | ![]() |
IQAir HealthPro Plus is a one-of-a-kind extremely small dust air purifier. It was designed by the Swiss to be used in hospitals to remove all very small airborne particulates. When it comes to dust removal, the IQAir HealthPro Plus is the most thorough air purifier, capable of removing even the smallest dust particles (below 0.1 micron in size) that no other air purifier effectively capture.
If you check the dust CADR rating of IQAir HealthPro Plus, you can see it is capable of removing dust particles with 300 CFM speed. Those are the 0.5-micron to 3-micron particles, however; other air purifiers have a higher dust CADR rating. The key to understanding here is that IQAir HealthPro Plus main focus is to remove ultrafine particles.
Namely, the HyperHEPA filters IQAir HealthPro Plus uses are an advanced kind of H14 HEPA filters. These are capable of removing more than 99.95% of all dust down to 0.003 microns.
To put that in perspective; H13 HEPA particles are capable of removing 0.3-micron particles well (these are 100 times bigger than 0.003-micron ones). Even Medify’s H14 HEPA filters are capable of removing 0.1-micron particles; there are still 333 times bigger than the ultrafine particles IQAir HealthPro Plus is capable of removing.
Due to very thorough ultrafine dust particle removal, the IQAir HealthPro Plus is the best air purifier for dust and allergies. Despite such powerful dust removal capacities, this unit can still produce 300 CFM of airflow and has a coverage of 450 sq ft at 5 air changes per hour purification frequency.
Of course, this ultrafine dust particle filtration does have a cost. Most notably, the IQAir HealthPro Plus has a higher-than-average running wattage of up to 215 CFM. As you might imagine, pushing air through the ultrafine HyperHEPA filter requires some serious power. As such, it can spend almost 5 kWh of electricity in 24 hours. The other obstacle here is the almost $1,000 cost (reasonable given the technology).
In short, IQAir HealthPro Plus is the best ultrafine dust particle air purifier in the world. It has advanced HyperHEPA filters, it is used in hospitals, and it is most recommended as the very best air purifier for dust and allergies due to such a thorough filtration:
3. Highest Dust CADR Air Purifier On The Market: CleanForce CP-MEGA 1000

Dust CADR Rating: | 600 CFM |
Particle CADR: | 600 CFM |
Dust Filters: | H13 HEPA |
Dust Removal: | 99.7% Particles Down To 0.1 Microns |
Coverage Area At 5 ACH: | 930 Sq Ft |
Max. Airflow: | N/A |
Fan Speeds: | 4 Speeds |
Max. Wattage: | 88 Watts |
Price: | $$$$ |
Rating: | ![]() |
Now, if we would opt to select the best air purifier for best removal based on the dust CADR rating alone, the top choice would be CleanForce CP-MEGA 1000. This is the highest dust CADR air purifier currently on the market. If you have a lot of dust, the CleanForce CP-MEGA 1000 is a very good choice to remove the dust from your air.
This powerful unit has a total dust CADR rating of 600 CFM. That’s above the chart dust CADR rating. Given this rating, if you were to look for the best air purifier to remove dust sized between 0.5 and 3 microns, the CleanForce CP-MEGA 1000 would be it. So why is it not rated as the #1 best dust air purifier?
Filters. Namely, both Medify and IQAir units have H14 filters. The CleanForce CP-MEGA 1000 has very good H13 HEPA filters. These enable it to reach the 600 CFM CADR rating. The H13 HEPA filters will remove up to 99.7% of dust particles down to 0.1 micron, in general. However, those ultrafine particles that H14 HEPA filters could remove may remain.
Despite its size and the huge 930 sq ft coverage area at 5 ACH (air changing every 12 minutes), it has comparatively low electricity requirements. With the max. wattage of 88W, it is one of the most efficient extra-large air purifiers for dust. In fact, it even has an Energy Star certification for being energy efficient.
While most air purifier brands have been on the market for a while, CleanForce is kind of a novelty. This is usually considered a con since we don’t have much information about brand reputation, the durability of air purifiers, and so on.
All in all, the CleanForce CP-MEGA 1000 has the highest CADR rating (600 CFM) but it does use H13 HEPA filters – which are very good – but obviously inferior to the H14 HEPA filters. With such high dust clearance, it can even be used to remove dust at construction sites:
4. Most Energy-Efficient Air Purifier For Dust Removal: Alen BreatheSmart 75i

Dust CADR Rating: | 347 CFM |
Particle CADR: | 347 CFM |
Dust Filters: | H13 HEPA |
Dust Removal: | 99.9% Particles Down To 0.1 Microns |
Coverage Area At 5 ACH: | 520 Sq Ft |
Max. Airflow: | 350 CFM |
Fan Speeds: | 5 Speeds |
Max. Wattage: | 45 Watts |
Price: | $$$$ |
Rating: | ![]() |
Alen BreatheSmart 75i is one of the best overall air purifiers in the last years. The use of H13 filters, low noise levels, and high energy efficiency, along with a 300+ dust CADR rating, makes it one of the best and most energy-efficient air purifiers for dust removal currently on the market.
Dust-removal-wise, the Alen BreatheSmart 75i has a dust CADR rating of 347 CFM. This is almost 100% more than the average dust CADR rating of a standard air purifier (180 CFM). Given that the maximum airflow is 350 CFM we can see that this unit can reduce dust particles, sized between 0.5 and 3 microns, in more than 99% of this airflow.
Filter-wise, we can see the use of H13 HEPA filters that capture more than 99.9% of particles down to 0.1 microns. That’s obviously not bad if you are looking for a dust-free home, but as always, H14 HEPA filters are better.
With 350 CFM airflow, the Alen BreatheSmart 75i has a coverage area of up to 520 sq ft at 5 ACH. At 2 air changes per hour (2 ACH), it has a coverage of 1,300 square feet.
The most brilliant aspects of the Alen BreatheSmart 75i are very quiet operation (below 56 dB) and very high energy efficiency. It can produce 347 CFM dust CADR rating at only 45 watts (max. wattage). That means that it will run at below 1 US cent per hour running cost.
Overall, the Alen BreatheSmart 75i is a very popular choice as an air purifier to remove dust. It uses a minimal amount of electricity to produce a 347 CFM CADR rating, it is a very quiet air purifier for dust and it uses H13 HEPA filters (not inferior H10-H12 HEPA filters):
5. Very Good Air Purifier For Dusty Rooms: Coway Airmega 400

Dust CADR Rating: | 328 CFM |
Particle CADR: | 400 CFM |
Dust Filters: | H13 HEPA |
Dust Removal: | 99.9% Particles Down To 0.1 Microns |
Coverage Area At 5 ACH: | 624 Sq Ft |
Max. Airflow: | 400 CFM |
Fan Speeds: | 4 Speeds |
Max. Wattage: | 66 Watts |
Price: | $$$$ |
Rating: | ![]() |
If you have dusty rooms and would like to remove dust effectively, the Coway Airmega 400 is another good choice. This is the best Coway air purifier for dust removal, with a particle CADR as high as 328 CFM.
The dust CADR, however, is a bit lower (328 CFM, to be exact). That simply means that Coway Airmega 400 is good at removing dust but it’s even better at removing pollen and smoke particles.
This was one of the first Coway air purifiers to be outfitted with the H13 HEPA filters. It can capture the majority of dust particles (99.9%) that as down to 0.1 micron in size. Nonetheless, it will have a bit of a problem capturing particles that are smaller than 0.1 microns.
With 66 watts of electric input, the Coway Airmega 400 can produce 400 CFM airflow (hence the ‘400’ in the name). This is enough airflow to remove dust in a 624 sq ft room every 12 minutes.
In short, the Coway Airmega 400 is a good choice for dusty rooms. It produces quite a lot of airflow, has a big 328 CFM dust CADR rating, but it is noteworthy that is not primarily focused on removing dust (it has higher pollen and smoke CADR rating):

Coway Airmega AP-1512HH is one of the most talked-about air purifiers when it comes to dust reduction (mainly due to its lower price). Many independent publications (not laboratories) have made the conclusion that this must be the best air purifier for dust. This is not exactly wrong; Coway Airmega AP-1512HH is fairly good but it lacks the H13 or H14 HEPA filters.
Namely, many publications would fill their offices with dust or smoke, and remove it using Coway Airmega AP-1512HH. The reported results seem to be very good: there is no more visible dust. The problem with these tests is that most of the dust in our houses is invisible; it’s so small our eyes can’t detect it. AHAM dust meters, however, can.
According to AHAM, Coway Airmega AP-1512HH has a 246 CFM dust CADR rating. This is above-average dust removal capability compared to a standard air purifier, but it is way below what the best air purifiers for dust can do.
The key problem is the dust that is not being measured:
Specifically, the biggest con of Coway Airmega AP-1512HH is that they still use inferior H12 HEPA filters. These can remove dust particles sized between 0.5 and 3 microns pretty well. However, when it comes to fine dust particles, H12 HEPA filters are just not as good as H13 HEPA filters (not to mention the H14 HEPA filters).
These H12 filters, however, are cheap and produce less air resistance. That’s why Coway Airmega AP-1512HH can be priced below $200 while good air purifiers have prices above $500. Cheaper filters mean that you don’t need as sophisticated a fan motor or don’t have to worry about noise (air pressures) as much. The bad thing about this is that you are also not removing the very fine dust particles.
Another con to mention is the 144 sq ft coverage at 5 air changes per hour. Coway Airmega AP-1512HH might be 2-3 times cheaper than other dust air purifiers but you will probably need 3-4 units to adequately cover a 500+ sq ft area.
All in all, nobody can argue that Coway Airmega AP-1512HH is a very good dust removal air purifier for the cost. With a below $200 price tag, it is the cheapest air purifier with some dust removal capabilities. However, the use of H12 HEPA filters is an old-school way of dealing with dust, and the low 144 sq ft coverage is not ideal if you are serious about removing dust in your home:
7. Most Useful Air Purifier For Dust: BlueAir DustMagnet 5440i

Dust CADR Rating: | 230 CFM |
Particle CADR: | 255 CFM |

Yes, air purifiers are a good way to remove dust, but they are basically a big box inside your home. To make it a bit more useful, BlueAir and even Ikea went into creating air purifiers with tabletops. The BlueAir DustMagnet 5440i is the best air purifier with a tabletop that can also remove dust very efficiently.
BlueAir DustMagnet 5440i has an above-average 230 CFM dust CADR rating, along with the 255 CFM particle rating. This is a fairly good dust removal rating, especially considering that BlueAir uses H13 HEPA filters.
As mentioned before, these True HEPA filters (H13) can remove more than 99.9% of particles with a diameter of 0.1 microns. That means that H13 filters have a big advantage over the H12 HEPA filters because they can also target and remove smaller particles with high efficiency.
With 380 sq ft coverage and running at a top wattage of 60W, the BlueAir DustMagnet 5440i is quite an efficient way to remove dust from medium-sized and even larger rooms.
The main feature of this BlueAir unit, produced by a Swedish company, is of course the tabletop. Basically, it’s not just a box. It’s a box that has a tabletop on top of it. You can put pretty much anything on it; from books, plants, and so on. Even cats will use it as their main headquarters (that’s BlueAir uses good pre-filters to remove cat hair as well).
All in all, the BlueAir DustMagnet 5440i has solid specs as far as dust removal is concerned (good but not the best, obviously). Given that it has a below $500 price tag and you get a tabletop with it, it’s a fairly good choice as a dust-removing air purifier:
8. Quietest Air Purifier For Dust: RabbitAir MinusA2 SPA-780A

Dust CADR Rating: | 193 CFM |
Particle CADR: | 200 CFM |
Dust Filters: | H13 HEPA |
Dust Removal: | 99.9% Particles Down To 0.1 Microns |
Coverage Area At 5 ACH: | 326 Sq Ft |
Max. Airflow: | 218 CFM |
Fan Speeds: | 5 Speeds |
Max. Wattage: | 61 Watts |

As you might imagine, using very fine dust filters like H13 HEPA requires additional power input that can make an air purifier loud. If you are looking for a quiet air purifier for dusty rooms, you might just go with the quietest air purifier for dust removal: RabbitAir MinusA2 SPA-780A.
RabbitAir MinusA2 SPA-780A is the quietest air purifier in general. It generates anywhere from 25.6 dB and up to 51.3 dB noise levels. To be exact, a smaller version of RabbitAir MinusA2 (SPA-700A model) generates only up to 45.6 dB and is considered a whisper quiet unit but it doesn’t have a sufficient CADR rating to remove a lot of dust.
The SPA 780A model has an above-average 200 CFM particle CADR rating and an almost average dust CADR rating of 193 CFM (pollen CADR is 200 CFM and smoke CADR is 180 CFM). That means that the RabbitAir MinusA2 SPA-780A will have an average big and standard-sized dust particle removal. However, it is very efficient at removing the most problematic smaller dust particulates in the air.
That’s because it uses H13 HEPA filters that can capture 99.9% of dust particles down to 0.1 micron in size (CADR rating measures only removal capability down to 0.5 microns).
With a maximum airflow (at Speed 5) of 213 CFM, the RabbitAir MinusA2 SPA-780A has a coverage space of 326 sq ft at 5 ACH. It uses 7 watts (Speed 1) to 61 watts (Speed 5). Considering the average CADR rating, this is an above-average electricity expenditure.
The whole point of using a RabbitAir MinusA2 SPA-780A is to have the quietest air purifier that can remove dust somewhat effectively. All in all, if you want to remove dust from smaller or medium-sized rooms, and you need a silent unit, the RabbitAir MinusA2 SPA-780A is a good choice:
9. Noteworthy Popular Air Purifier To Remove Dust: Shark HE601

Dust CADR Rating: | 160 CFM |
Particle CADR: | 160 CFM |
Dust Filters: | H12 HEPA |
Dust Removal: | 99.97% Particles Down To 0.3 Microns |
Coverage Area At 5 ACH: | 240 Sq Ft |
Max. Airflow: | 200 CFM |
Fan Speeds: | 6 Speeds |
Max. Wattage: | 121 Watts |
Price: | $$$$ |

Shark HE601 is a new air purifier that is quite a popular choice for dust removal. However, to be honest, that is pretty much because of good marketing and price offers.
If you check the specs, it cannot really compare to other good air purifiers for dust removal. First of all, it only has an H12 HEPA filter; this is anything but ideal.
It also has below average dust CADR rating (160 CFM, to be exact). Yes, it does have 6 fan speeds – above-average fan speeds – but that doesn’t really matter that much.
Shark HE601 also runs on 121 watts when running at 100% output (Speed 6). That’s could be justified if the unit would be using H13 HEPA filters and had a 300+ CADR rating but, sadly, that’s not the case.
All in all, Shark HE601 is an example of how good marketing can sometimes fool people into buying subpar specs air purifiers for dust:
We hope that you have a good look into how air purifiers remove dust and increase indoor air quality. With this specs-based selection of the best air purifiers for dust removal, you will have the right tool for creating a dust-free home.
